The Ancient Wisdom of Vedic Astrology, Powered by Modern Technology
Dasha Calculator bridges centuries-old Jyotish Shastra with precision computing to help you understand the planetary periods that shape your life's journey.
Our Mission
We believe everyone deserves access to the profound wisdom of Vedic astrology. Our mission is to democratize Dasha calculations — making them free, accurate, and instantly accessible to anyone with an internet connection. No expensive software, no complex computations — just enter your birth details and discover your planetary timeline.
How It Works
Our calculator uses astronomical algorithms to compute the Moon's precise sidereal longitude at your exact birth time. From this, it determines your birth Nakshatra (lunar mansion) — which sets the starting planet of your Vimshottari Dasha sequence. The system then generates your complete 120-year Mahadasha timeline, with nested Antardasha and Pratyantar Dasha sub-periods.
Accuracy & Methodology
We support multiple Ayanamsa systems — Lahiri (Chitrapaksha), Raman, Krishnamurti (KP), and Thirukanitham — so you can calculate according to your preferred school of Vedic astrology. The moon position calculations incorporate major perturbation terms for reliable Nakshatra determination across centuries of birth dates.
For Everyone
Whether you're a seasoned Jyotish practitioner, a curious seeker, or simply exploring Vedic astrology for the first time — our tool is designed for you. The clean interface presents complex astronomical data in an understandable format, while the advanced options cater to experienced astrologers.
The Science of Jyotish Shastra
Vedic Astrology (Jyotish Shastra) is one of the six Vedangas — auxiliary disciplines of the ancient Vedic texts. Dating back over 5,000 years, it's among the oldest systematic studies of celestial influences on human affairs. Unlike Western astrology, Vedic astrology uses the Sidereal zodiac, which accounts for the precession of the equinoxes through the Ayanamsa correction.
The Vimshottari Dasha system, which our calculator implements, is described in Parashara's Brihat Parashara Hora Shastra — one of the foundational texts of Vedic astrology. The word "Vimshottari" literally means "120" in Sanskrit, referring to the total cycle length. This 120-year period is divided among nine celestial bodies (Navagraha): Sun, Moon, Mars, Rahu, Jupiter, Saturn, Mercury, Ketu, and Venus.
Each person's Dasha sequence begins from the Nakshatra (lunar mansion) occupied by the Moon at the time of birth. There are 27 Nakshatras, each spanning 13°20' of the zodiac, and each ruled by one of the nine Dasha planets. The fraction of the Nakshatra already traversed by the Moon determines the remaining balance of the first Mahadasha period — making accurate birth time crucial for precise calculations.
Our calculator brings this ancient computational framework into the digital age, performing in seconds what traditional astrologers would calculate by hand over hours — while maintaining the mathematical integrity that Parashara prescribed millennia ago.
