Planetary Dasha Calculator
Planetary Dasha systems assign time periods to planets rather than zodiac signs. This calculator supports the 3 most important planetary dasha systems: Vimshottari (120 years, 9 planets), Yogini (36 years, 8 Yoginis), and Ashtottari (108 years, 8 planets).

FreeTypes of Planetary Dasha
Planetary Dasha systems assign periods directly to planets. During each period, the ruling planet's influence dominates life events based on its position, strength, and aspects in the birth chart. The 3 main planetary dasha systems are:
- Vimshottari Dasha (120 years): Uses all 9 Navagraha planets. The most universal and widely used system. Applicable to all charts regardless of birth conditions.
- Yogini Dasha (36 years): Uses 8 Yoginis associated with 8 planets (Ketu excluded). Shorter cycle repeats multiple times in a lifetime. Easier to validate against actual events.
- Ashtottari Dasha (108 years): Uses 8 planets (Ketu excluded). Applied conditionally when Rahu is in Kendra/Trikona from Lagna lord.
This calculator computes all three systems. Select your preferred system in the Advanced Settings panel. For most users, Vimshottari Dasha is the recommended default.
Frequently Asked Questions
Start with Vimshottari Dasha — it is the universal default applicable to all charts. Use Yogini Dasha as a cross-check for confirmation. Use Ashtottari only if Rahu is in a Kendra or Trikona from your Lagna lord. When multiple systems agree on timing, prediction confidence increases.
Planetary dashas (like Vimshottari) assign periods to planets — the ruling planet's energy dominates during its period. Sign-based dashas (like Chara Dasha) assign periods to zodiac signs — the sign's environment and its lord's position determine the period's theme.
Classical texts describe over 40 dasha systems. Among planet-based systems, the main ones are: Vimshottari, Yogini, Ashtottari, Dwadashottari, Panchottari, Shatabdika, Shashtihayani, Shodashottari, Chaturashiti Sama, and Dvisaptati Sama.
